How much lighter is carbon fiber than steel?

Carbon fiber is much lighter than steel. Carbon fiber components typically weigh roughly 1/5 of the weight of steel components.

GCI utilizes carbon fiber in industrial lift assist and torque reaction solutions. And carbon fiber is just as durable as steel for our applications. While we still need to utilize steel components for the joints and end effector, the overall weight of the moving assembly is about 1/3 the weight of the steel version. This allows our engineering team to design more ergonomic and longer-reach manipulator arms.

What Our Clients Say

Our new GCI manipulator arm has been a great addition to our operation. It safely and efficiently handles 8-, 10-, and 12-inch Alpha valves without slowing down production. The installation also allowed us to reorganize the area — creating more room, reducing clutter, and enabling Alpha valve assembly in two separate work cells. This added flexibility really helps when we’re running large orders of 4- and 6-inch Alpha valves.
