The client requested a single system to handle multiple steps of tire fender assembly and installation. This system is capable of picking up three different styles of fenders, lifting them off the ground, and rotating them up to 270° to allow an operator to assemble components on the underside. It then rotates back and lifts the part to the installation position. The system has an automatic rotation stop to prevent the fender from rotating into the ground at lower heights and at higher heights, there are adjustable stops to aid the operator in getting the correct orientation during installation.
The vacuum system can raise objects weighing up to 150 lbs, with a vertical range of 70″. Prior to lifting, sensors check for a secure vacuum seal on the item. The operator is alerted by four red/green indicators at the operator controls, and the system won’t lift the object until the seal is confirmed for safety purposes.
This system is raised and lowered with a hoist and rail system for simplicity and ease of maintenance.
A 10′ reach Gorbel jib is also located on the top of the system base to aid in the handling of verification equipment used later in the assembly, keeping it up and out of the way but still accessible.
