Smart Torque Reaction Arm for Operator Guidance

The client was seeking a torque reaction solution to ensure operator safety and quality assurance for a transmission assembly process.

GCI designed a torque reaction arm with the proprietary AdaptiCS® software integrated. Working in tandem with the encoders at each joint, AdaptiCS® tracks the tooltip location and provides guidance to the operator. The visual coding interface makes it simple for the client to program their own parameters and sequences for the assembly process.

To help with safety, a load balancing system and discrete brake were included in the solution. The load balancing feature cancels out the arm and tool weight to make positioning easy for the operator. When the tool is in position, the discrete brake locks up the arm to absorb the reactive torque forces.
