The client needed a more effective ergonomic solution to “pick and place” garage doors. The previous process of using a forklift with straps took too much time.
GCI created an industrial manipulator arm with a specialized end effector to handle rolled-up garage doors with straps. An engagement lever on the end effector locks the strap hook in place once it is wrapped around the door, allowing the operator to effortlessly lift and relocate the part using the main control levers.
To prevent an accidental part release, the operator simply presses levers on both handles to disengage the part. Additionally, a load sensor confirms that the part has been properly placed before permitting its release.
