The client needed an ergonomic lifting solution to move rolls with two different core sizes, rotate them from vertical to horizontal, and protect the inside of the cores from damage during handling.
GCI designed a hook mounted manipulator with a 3 inch bladder probe gripper and an adapter for the larger 6 inch core size. Adjustable hook points allow the center of gravity to be shifted based on the length of the roll, helping keep the load properly positioned during handling. A visual size gauge also gives the operator a clear reference for the maximum allowable roll diameter before gripping the load.
The roll is rotated using a simple angled swivel that helps keep it centered beneath the hook point for more comfortable operator handling. Because the bladder expands inside the roll and cannot be seen during operation, a pressure gauge provides a clear visual indication that the bladder has expanded and the roll is ready to be safely moved and manipulated.
