This was a unique case where we replaced one of our own manipulators. The client had been utilizing a GCI manipulator for over 25 years! While we’re proud of the longevity of the system, the time had come to upgrade. We’re constantly seeking improvements and innovation for our system so an upgrade would improve the usability and ergonomics for the operators.
GCI designed a new manipulator arm with a simple hook attachment to help move engines between lines. The linear balance handle helps keep the controls at an ideal ergonomic height while the part moves up and down during the handling process. Leveling bolts at each joint enable the arm to be rebalanced as the system settles over time. This keeps the arm level so the arm doesn’t swing away while unparked and ensures the operator doesn’t have extra resistance while moving the arm “uphill” in the one direction.
