Hoist-Mounted Battery Handling Manipulator

The client needed a solution to safely pick and place battery modules for a material handling process.

GCI designed a hoist-mounted lift assist system with safety at the forefront. The grippers have specially shaped pads that assist in aligning the tooling with the battery module, and they only connect to the lifting tabs. An indicator with red and green colors provides confirmation to the operator when a secure grip is achieved.

Plastic pads are included between the metal gripping fingers and the frame of the lift assist system. This feature prevents short-circuiting the battery terminals during the handling process.
