Custom Multi-Spindle Torque Tube for a Wheel Assembly

The client was seeking an ergonomic solution to enable operators to efficiently tighten multiple nuts simultaneously and apply the correct torque during the wheel hub assembly process for a bus.

GCI engineered a custom 5-spindle torque tube to enhance process efficiency and operator safety. The torque tube is mounted on an overhead bridge and crane system, expanding the coverage area for accessing assembly points. Vertical travel is powered by a lift cylinder, and a manual roll assists the operator in aligning the tools with the bolts. A visual display aids the process by indicating when each tool has applied the correct torque to each nut.
