Manipulator Arm to Absorb Sand Compactor Vibrations

The client operates a metal foundry that requires sand to be packed for molds. The tool used for this process generates a lot of vibrations that create an ergonomic issue for operators.

GCI designed an overhead-mounted manipulator arm with a shock-absorbing mount for the compactor tool. The load balancing system further improves the ergonomics and negates the weight of the arm to make it easy for the operator to quickly move the tool. Once in place, the “Down Bias” lever adds downward force to keep the tool engaged with the sand.
