The client needed a safe and ergonomic solution to assist operators with loading heavy molds into both the upper and lower sides of a pipe corrugating machine.
GCI engineered a custom manipulator equipped with tooling that precisely matches the mold dovetail used for the client’s pipe corrugator, allowing molds to be securely picked up and positioned with minimal physical effort. Once aligned with the pipe corrugator’s dovetail, a pneumatic cylinder pushes the mold off the manipulator and into its final seated position. To support both upper and lower mold loading, the manipulator features a manual roll mechanism with a simple T-pin that allows operators to rotate the dovetail tooling as needed. When the system is not in use, a parking brake securely holds the manipulator in place until the next mold change.
The result is a straightforward, reliable solution that changes this 2-person lifting process to a 1-person operation that is significantly safer and more ergonomic.
