A manufacturer needed a safe and ergonomic way to pick up, rotate, and load cast iron housings into machining centers while avoiding bottlenecks with their overhead crane.
GCI designed a custom manipulator that allows operators to handle these parts with precision while also being able to quickly disconnect from the hoist and park in a dedicated stand, freeing the crane for other operations. Integrated part presence and air supply sensors provide clear feedback to the operator, while a load sensor ensures the part cannot be released until it is safely set down. A linear balance handle maintains consistent ergonomic positioning throughout vertical travel, reducing strain and improving control during the handling process.
The result is a safer, more controlled loading process that improves operator ergonomics while increasing overall equipment availability on the shop floor.
