Asphalt Paver Track Tire ID & OD Gripper Combo

The client needed a material handling solution to grab these track tires from both the inner and outer diameters. Additionally, the operator needed to be able to tilt the tire to align the wheel studs for the assembly process.

GCI engineered a custom end-of-hook gripper with a part interface for both the inner and outer surfaces of the tire. Four cylinders actuate in unison to engage the part with two cylinders powering the tilt action. A counterbalance helps stabilize the machine. To prevent accidentally dropping the part, a two-handed safety button reduce the chances of an inadvertent operator error.
