This project was a retool of an existing GCI manipulator arm used to handle brake hubs. The client needed more precise and consistent alignment of the brake assembly with axle lugs.
GCI replaced the original air motor with a rotary actuator for better control and added a self-centering feature to ensure the hub is picked up in the same orientation every time. Manual override options and additional control buttons near the part gripper give operators flexibility and ease of use. A powered pitch for axle tilt and an optional video monitor were included as backup alignment aids. Together these upgrades improve precision, consistency, and ergonomics, making it easier and safer for operators to handle and align brake hubs during assembly.
