At around 200 lbs, these truck hoods required a material handling solution to help the operator move the part while staying safe. A custom end-of-hook gripper would need to be engineered to specifically handle this part properly.
The final solution included a pad to rest the part while the pneumatic cylinder rotates the gripper around the lip of the hood on the opposite end. Guard rails and safety sensors were added to ensure safe operation. An adjustable counterweight and linear balance handle were included to further enhance the ergonomic features for the operator.
